Why NAES Uses Artificial Intelligence
The National Association of Episcopal Schools (NAES) uses Artificial Intelligence (AI) in a few key contexts. All uses of AI are geared towards one key function—extending the capabilities of a small-staff association to better fulfill the mission of NAES, to serve those who serve Episcopal schools.
Guiding Principles
NAES is guided by the following ethical principles:
- Transparency: All AI-generated content will be clearly labelled. NAES will also provide information on the specific platform or platforms used to generate content.
- Human-Centricity: The goal for AI usage at NAES will always be to extend our existing capabilities, and never to replace the work done by other people. NAES will always prioritize augmentation of existing abilities over replacement of outsourced work.
- Objectivity: NAES will be vigilant to bias in AI-generated content. A team member will review all content, and corrective actions will be taken such as revision of content or discontinuation of any particular AI tool prone to bias.
- Openness: NAES welcomes feedback on the usage of AI throughout our website and in our services to members.
Key Uses
NAES currently uses AI in these primary ways:
- Creating outlines and notes from previously recorded NAES webinars.
- Generating summaries of (anonymous) qualitative data from NAES research projects.
- Editing/enhancing human-generated content.
- Automation of menial administrative tasks.
- Generating reports as a function of the NAES database.
Honoring Creative Work
NAES is committed to using AI in a manner that respects the work of artists, writers, and other creative workers. NAES will not use AI in a manner that displaces human artists or freelancers. All artistic works used in NAES materials will be either entirely human-created, or generated with meaningful human input.
Privacy
NAES will never share private or personally identifiable information with AI platforms. NAES will only use tools that comply with industry standards for privacy.
Evaluation & Feedback
NAES will regularly review our use of AI to ensure we are operating in a manner consistent with our mission. NAES also welcomes feedback on this policy, or on any specific AI-labelled content on this website.
Accountability
In the event that NAES should discover AI content to be biased or inaccurate, NAES will take immediate steps to remove or correct that content. NAES will clearly label any significant content corrections.
