POSITION REQUIREMENTS:  

CFS seeks an experienced, enthusiastic and engaging leader to serve as a faculty member and Chair of the STEM Department. This is a 10-month, full-time faculty position and requires an advanced degree.A minimum of eight years of teaching experience is preferred.  All CFS faculty share responsibilities in the academic, athletic, residential and co-curricular life of the school. The Chair would teach 3 class sections, advise and have evening affiliate duties in the dormitories. All candidates must be able to nurture the development of students’ critical thinking and analytic skills, while also helping them to respond creatively to the world around them.

The successful candidate will have a degree in a STEM field and possess broad knowledge of and experience with high school math curricula. All candidates should be adept in the integration of technology in instruction. As Church Farm School continues to develop 21st-century teaching and learning initiatives, the school seeks candidates who will make meaningful contributions to the integration of STEM and Ethical Literacy in the curriculum. The school seeks candidates who will oversee a comprehensive design of the STEM curriculum and lead the department in adapting to interdisciplinary design. The ideal candidate will lead a collaborative STEM department; share the joy of teaching in an all-male, culturally diverse, independent college preparatory boarding and day school; and will have an understanding and sensitivity to social emotional learning (SEL) matters as well as possess cross-cultural competency skills.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES: 

As a member of the Academic Faculty and leader of the STEM Department, the individual will:

  • Demonstrate positive support of the school’s mission through time, dedication, personal example, actions and attitude
  • Demonstrate knowledge of and experience with using technology in the delivery of curriculum and instruction
  • Meet regularly with Department Chairs and serve as a leader of faculty in academic arenas and across all areas of school
  • Promote the development and delivery of 21st century teaching/learning methodologies and model and support effective and innovative instruction across all levels of STEM courses
  • Promote effective student engagement, faculty development and instructional plans
  • Work with department members on curricular development (including interdisciplinary work), scope and sequence, and team teaching and interdisciplinary approaches
  • Observe, coach and evaluate STEM faculty
  • Create a supportive atmosphere and rigorous academic program in which all students will thrive
  • Create a learning environment where students will take risks and explore new ideas and work collaboratively
  • Support the administration in establishing new academic policies and upholding those in place
  • Inspire, empower and guide students at all levels
  • Communicate effectively with CFS students, adults and parents
  • Understand and welcome the complexity of teaching a diverse community of adolescent boys
  • Cultivate meaningful, professional relationships with and among colleagues and also with students and their families
  • Promote and encourage a spirit of community, collaboration and common purpose
  • Perform required faculty activities, including periodic evening/weekend duties, coaching and residential responsibilities
  • Exhibit enthusiasm for working closely with colleagues and students in a boarding school environment
