Stuart Hall School, an independent Episcopal day and boarding school serving grades 6-12, seeks a full-time School Counselor to support the social and emotional well-being of all students. The School Counselor will create a comprehensive school counseling program that promotes student success and personal growth.

Position Highlights

The School Counselor will:

• Provide individual and group counseling for social, emotional, and behavioral issues.
• Develop and implement preventative mental health programs.
• Manage crisis intervention and student mental health emergencies.
• Consult with parents/guardians and provide resources.
• Refer students and families to external support when needed.
• Collaborate with faculty and staff to foster a supportive school climate.
• Support teachers in developing students’ social skills and classroom strategies.
• Assist Residential Life Faculty in creating student support systems.
• Participate in weekly Student Support Team meetings.
• Advocate for student needs and inclusivity.
• Maintain confidential student records.
• Stay updated on best practices in school counseling.
• Co-teach 8th Grade Summit and/or Freshman Seminar on executive functioning and social-emotional well-being.

Additional Responsibilities could include, based on candidate interest and school need:

• Contribute to co-curricular activities such as coaching, clubs, or student groups.
• Support the residential life program (on-campus housing available).

Required Skills & Qualifications

• Master’s degree in School or Mental Health Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or related field
• Strong knowledge of adolescent development, counseling theories, and best practices.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to collaborate with students, families, faculty, and administration.
• Experience with crisis intervention and management.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to pass a background check.

Preferred Qualifications (absences will not harm application)

• LCSW, LPC, or comparable license.
• Experience in an independent school.
• Strong consideration for candidates with boarding school experience, including living on campus and participating in residential life.
• Experience coaching interscholastic sports
