Full-time, 10 month position

The Physical Education Teacher will have experience as an educator and coach. Ideal candidates foster students’ enthusiasm for activity and fitness to create a healthy lifestyle. Our physical education faculty excels at creating and articulating a clear vision, collaborating with colleagues, and generating excitement and passion in students, parents, and our community regarding our athletic programs and physical education.

We place a high value on community and seek candidates with excellent interpersonal skills who work well with students, colleagues, and parents. This full-time position will teach both lower and middle school students and may advise 10–12 middle school students, as well as the other responsibilities of being an independent school educator. An additional part of this role is coaching after-school sports throughout the year. We are looking for a positive and collaborative team member. 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the Athletic Director and PE Department Chair to create an exciting and engaging department focused on helping all students learn basic Physical Education skills and making a positive impact on holistic student wellness
  • Work with our PE Department Chair to develop and deliver a holistic program and curriculum focused on student wellness, including physical fitness, health education, and a range of sports; this role will develop and teach PE classes
  • Provide an atmosphere and environment conducive to students’ intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development
  • Establish and maintain standards of student behavior to provide an orderly, productive environment; communicate proactively and as needed with faculty, parents, and administrators
  • The Athletic Department is responsible for setting up and maintaining all athletic spaces to ensure they are equipped with materials that create a dynamic learning environment for all students during recess, PE, and athletics throughout the school year
  • Create and maintain a safe and effective learning environment through clean and organized spaces; provide appropriate safety instruction and make safety checks on equipment and field areas to ensure the overall safety of students
  • Evaluate students’ academic and social growth, prepare report cards, and keep appropriate records
  • With the Athletic Department, lead or support student activities and events such as field day, dodgeball tournament, and spirit week
  • Communicate with parents on student progress when necessary
  • Meet and coordinate with Learning Support Specialists; adapt activities to students’ special needs; develop appropriate accommodations when necessary

Other Duties

  • Maintain professional competence by attending staff development programs, curriculum development meetings, and other professional activities
  • Be an active and positive participant in the All Saints’ community, including attending events, field trips as needed, and stepping in to support the school in a variety of ways
  • Perform any other related duties as assigned by the Head of School or their designee
  • Serve on special committees and fulfill the responsibilities of a committee member
  • Attend planning meetings, team meetings, staff meetings, data meetings, and other meetings of groups according to membership in those groups
  • Maintain regular, on-time attendance

Qualifications/Skills/Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree, Master’s degree preferred
  • Education, training, and/or experience in achieving student engagement
  • Successful experience teaching athletics/P.E. to elementary or middle school students
  • Creativity, passion for the subject matter, and a positive attitude
  • Ability to work outside in all weather, lift up to 50 pounds, and travel locally when required
  • An appreciation for and an understanding of the social, emotional, educational, and developmental needs of lower and middle school learners; enjoys being with children
