POSITION DESCRIPTION
St. Catherine’s School is an Episcopal day school in Richmond, Virginia, founded in 1890 enrolling 946 girls age 3 through grade 12. POSITION OVERVIEW
St. Catherine’s School seeks a committed, enthusiastic, and innovative Middle School English Teacher to begin work for the 2025-2026 school term. This position includes teaching the English 6 curriculum to our 6th-grade students, which includes reading comprehension, novel studies, writing, grammar, vocabulary, organization, research, as well as other executive functioning skills. The ideal candidate will have an undergraduate degree in education or English education. A master’s degree is preferred. Applicants should demonstrate an interest in contributing to the school’s English program as well as the overall desired outcomes of the Middle School program. Additionally, applicants should have a desire to participate fully in the life of the Middle School. Passion and/or experience for project-based and differentiated learning and an interest in working in a student-centered, collaborative, educational environment are beneficial. Experience in Google Suite for Education is preferred. Candidates should have an interest in being part of a community that strives to create access, equity, and belonging for all.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Teach five (5) sections of English to all Grade 6 students
- Collaborate with the English Department to analyze and review the curriculum
- Partner with the other grade-level academic classes and participate in team meetings
- Serve as an advisor
- Participate in department and faculty meetings
- Create a classroom community based on the School’s core values
- Develop and implement an English curriculum that includes a focus on skill development
- Champion and assist in implementing the School’s access, equity, and belonging initiatives
- Find joy in working with students and the wider School community both in teaching and taking part in the broader life of the School
- Strong orientation towards teamwork and community success
- Other duties as assigned
REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS
- undergraduate degree in education or English
- should relate well to adolescent girls
- teaching experience in 6th grade and/or Middle School
- strong interpersonal and communication skills and a passion for learning
- ability to coach a sport (preferred)

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is required to sit; stand; walk; use hands to grasp, handle and feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl; talk and hear; engage in moderately strenuous physical activity both indoors and out; and smell. The employee may occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Ability to become CPR and First Aid Certified.
