Reports to: Director of Extended Day & Little Saints and Little Saints Program Coordinator

Position Summary:

St. Christopher’s School, the largest all-boys school in Virginia and one of the largest and oldest boys’ schools in the Mid-Atlantic region, seeks a creative and flexible teacher for its Extended Day Program, a unique after-school opportunity for students to explore enriching academic, artistic, and athletic experiences.

Serving approximately 1,000 boys in Grades JK-12 in Richmond, Virginia, St. Christopher’s is an Episcopal school committed to cultivating a community that is diverse, inclusive and welcoming. The Extended Day program serves St. Christopher’s and St. Catherine’s students from both the lower and middle schools by providing an extensive, year-round after-school program in a safe and familiar setting on the St. Christopher’s campus.

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Work with the Little Saints team to provide a safe, loving, and caring environment
  • Engage and play with children while also monitoring their safety and well-being
  • Attend to children’s daily needs including, but not limited to, toilet training, diaper changes, feeding assistance, and overall hygiene
  • Take student attendance according to Little Saints policy
  • Actively monitor student behavior in the classroom and during recess, and report any incidents regarding students’ behavior
  • Perform other assigned teacher duties, as needed

Qualifications and Key Skills:

  • A commitment to best practices in education, as articulated in the School’s Teaching Excellence Document, and a dedication to best practices for boys, as espoused by the St. Christopher’s Center for the Study of Boys
  • A clear commitment to diversity, community, and inclusion in school communities, as expressed in the St. Christopher’s Diversity and Inclusion Statement
  • Bachelor’s degree or certification in early childhood education is preferred
  • Experience working with young children in an early childhood setting
  • Patient, nurturing, and kind, with a deep appreciation and passion for working with children ages 2-4
  • Personal traits and communication style that nurture the growth of children
  • Positive team-oriented attitude and flexibility to collaborate with others in a variety of circumstances
  • Energetic, professional, hard-working, and models integrity at all times
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills are vital
  • Exceptional judgment and ability to maintain confidentiality

Physical Requirements:

  • Regularly required to stand, walk, kneel, and stoop around for extended periods of time
  • Occasionally required to work in poor weather conditions such as temperature, precipitation, and wind during recess
  • Ability to lift children between the ages of 2-4
