St James the Fisherman’s Children Center in Islamorada is seeking a new Director to begin June 1st, 2025. The Children Center opened its doors in 1984 and has become one of the most sought-after preschools in the Upper Keys. It has an impeccable reputation and is nationally accredited with NAEYC. The Director articulates and embodies the school mission, its Episcopal identity and values, recruits, develops, supports and oversees a strong faculty and builds strong relationships with parents, alumni, and the broader community. The Director works collaboratively with the Church leadership and the Advisory Board.
Key Responsibilities
- Vision and Leadership:
Articulate and embody the school’s mission, Episcopal Identity and values, providing strategic direction for the school’s future development while working closely with the Advisory Board & Vestry.
- Academic Oversight:
Lead the academic program, ensuring high-quality instruction, curriculum alignment, and assessment practices that support student learning.
- Faculty Leadership:
Recruit, develop, and support a strong faculty, fostering a positive and collaborative working environment.
- Student Life:
Foster a nurturing and inclusive student culture, overseeing student activities, disciplinary matters, and student well-being.
- Financial Management:
Work with the Vestry to manage the school’s budget, ensuring fiscal responsibility and resource allocation aligned with strategic priorities.
- Community Engagement:
Build strong relationships with parents, alumni, and the broader community, actively promoting the school’s mission and programs.
- Board Relations:
Regularly report to the Board of Trustees, collaborating on decision-making and long-term strategic planning.
- External Representation:
Serve as the public face of the school, representing the institution at conferences, events, and community gatherings.
- Staff Management:
Hires, trains and terminates preschool teachers and staff. Conducts performance evaluations and provides professional development opportunities.
Administrative Duties:
- Ensure compliance with state licensing requirements and safety regulations
- Maintain NAEYC Accreditation, BPiece Inclusion Program and Gold Seal of Excellence
- Ensures all assessments are being conducted on students (Ages & Stages, CLASS, VPK Monitoring Assessment Tool)
- Oversees facility maintenance and cleanliness
- Maintains necessary documentation
- Maintains all student and staff records
- Maintains attendance of students and staff
- Manages school profile and contract (VPK and School Readiness) with the Early Learning Coalition
Requirements:
- Active Director Credential with VPK Endorsement
- Completion of DCF 45 hours
- Current First Aide/CPR Infant and toddler certification
- Completion of “Safe Church” requirements
- Demonstrated commitment to the Episcopal Church and its values
- Computer literate (Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, Publisher, Outlook)
- Ability to solve problems and act quickly in a crisis
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to build relationships with families and the community
