Stuart Hall School, an independent Episcopal day and boarding school serving grades 6-12, seeks a full-time Director of Residential Life to provide both strategic leadership and daily oversight of the residential life program, ensuring a positive and enriching experience for boarding students.
Position Highlights
The Director of Residential Life’s responsibilities include:
Residential Life Leadership & Management
- Provide leadership, management, mentorship, and support to Residential Life faculty.
- Oversee all aspects of the Residential Life Program.
- Manage residential logistics.
- Serve as a dormitory head, living on campus and participating in the duty rotation.
- Assist with professional development for Residential Life faculty.
- Serve as a back-up to the School Nurse, triaging minor injuries and administering medications
Student Life & Activities
- Lead the planning and execution of weekend activities.
- Develop and manage the Student Activities Budget with the Dean.
- Be a visible leader in student life, motivating students to engage in activities, fostering school spirit, and strengthening campus culture.
- Oversee the Red/White competition.
- Assist with the coordination and execution of major school events.
International Student Support
- Assist international students with transportation, break logistics, and host family coordination.
- Serve as a resource for international families.
- Support international students in cultural celebrations and integrating into school life.
Administrative & Logistical Support
- Communicate clearly and effectively with students, families, colleagues, and external vendors regarding programs and events.
- Collaborate with the Dean and Assistant Dean on strategic planning for student life.
- Contribute photos and written updates for school communications.
General Responsibilities
- Some position-specific tasks must be completed during the summer. Employees have the flexibility to determine when and where they work, provided all deadlines are met.
- Attend major school events and engage with students, faculty, and staff to stay connected to school life.
- Serve as an advisor to a group of 8-12 students.
- Depending on experience and school needs, teach a class or lead a co-curricular program.
- Valid driver’s license required as well as ability to pass a background check.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree.
- Previous experience in residential life, specifically living in a dormitory, for at least three years.
- A strong interest in contributing to extracurricular aspects of school life, such as coaching, leading afternoon activities, chaperoning weekend events, or collaborating with student clubs.
- Valid driver’s license required as well as ability to pass a background check.
- Must be authorized to work in the United States.
- Ability to travel around various parts of the school building and campus. Some areas of the historic main campus are only accessible by stairs. Reasonable accommodations will be provided to allow employees to perform essential duties.
Preferred Qualifications (absences will not harm application)
- Experience coaching interscholastic sports, especially volleyball, soccer, basketball or golf.
- Experience as a dorm head or previous experience leading a residential life program is preferred.
- Experience leading student activities is preferred.
