St. Martin’s Episcopal School is seeking a culturally competent and responsive candidate to serve as the Director of the Kairos Learning Center. The Kairos Learning Center offers expert instructional support for students with dyslexia by providing daily Orton-Gillingham language instruction and multi-modal math in small group instruction. Kairos offers specially tailored programs for first through eighth-grade students who have a Dyslexia diagnosis. The Director of the Kairos Learning Center reports to the Director of Student Support Services with frequent collaboration with members of the Leadership team including division principals and the Head of School.

The tasks, duties, and responsibilities of this job include, but are not limited to, the following essential functions:

  • Supports families, students, and the Kairos program in a variety of ways, including providing frequent communication, transition plans, oversight of Kairos applications for admissions, curriculum planning, and implementation, budget needs, student executive functioning support, and teacher support.
  • Supervises two teams of Kairos teachers, in both the Lower and Middle Schools, overseeing curriculum, team meetings, and serves as a liaison between Kairos and general studies teaching faculty.
  • Facilitates the student progress process, regularly assessing the needs of the Kairos teachers and students
  • Provides open and frequent communication channels; both internally with teachers and administrators, and externally with Kairos families.
  • Creates and implements transition plans for students’ outplacement from Kairos.   
  • Manages the budget for the Kairos program.
  • In partnership with the Enrollment Office and Director of Student Support, oversees the Kairos admissions process: leading tours, reviewing applications, partnering with parents, and making informed decisions to ensure the enrollment of students aligns with the program’s goals.
  • Assesses educational psychological evaluations for all Kairos applicants and provides detailed notes for the Admissions team for review and consideration 
  • Develops and implements outplacement policies and procedures for Kairos students. 
  • Collaborates with general studies teachers and Director of Student Support Services on best practices to support Kairos students in their respective classrooms. 
  • Serves as the primary point of contact for outside practitioners who provide services to Kairos students on campus.
  • Regularly meets with division principals and attends grade-level meetings to integrate Kairos’ student needs and support. 
  • Creates Kairos parent educational presentations for parent events. 
  • Attends student support meetings to work with the principals and Student Support Services Director to provide the best learning plan for the student.
  • Conducts Kairos admissions tours from October- January, followed by a Q&A with parents. 
  • Performs teacher observations and provides verbal and written feedback to Kairos teachers in grades one through eight, and reports feedback to the Director of Student Support Services
  • Serves as a substitute and resource for Kairos teachers when needed.
  • In partnership with the St. Martin’s Communications Department, appropriately marketing the Kairos program internally and externally.  

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree or above in Education or Psychology
  • A minimum of 5 years of teaching experience
  • Experience serving as a Learning Specialist 
  • Orton-Gillingham associate level or fellow 

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous teaching and administrative experience in an Independent school setting, ideally working with Lower and Middle School students and families.

 

Schedule and FLSA Status

The position is an 11-month Administrative position that works two weeks after post-planning and two weeks before pre-planning begins. It adheres to a regular schedule of Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and follows the typical school calendar. The 11-month role will be paid over 12-months. The position is full-time, benefits eligible and exempt.
