Director of Enrollment Management

The Director of Enrollment Management is an integral part of the School’s administrative team and is responsible for managing all facets of the admissions process in the school’s effort to attract, enroll, and retain a diverse and robust student population. The School is seeking a  dynamic, innovative and collaborative Director of Enrollment Management to work closely with the Head of School and Senior Leadership Team to advance the mission and goals of the School and to develop a relevant, responsive and forward-thinking enrollment office. This is a 12-month position, and may include nights and weekends. The Director of Enrollment Management reports directly to the Head of School.  

Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Uphold the mission, core values, and standards of the school by recruiting and retaining a diverse pool of students who both contribute to and benefit from the school’s distinctive mission, culture, and programmatic offerings.
  • Demonstrate a deep understanding of the school’s mission, culture, and climate, as well as the broader educational landscape, market trends, and community dynamics.
  • Report directly to the Head of School and serve as a liaison to the Board of Trustees on matters related to admissions and enrollment. Provide formal presentations to the board at least twice annually.
  • Provide visionary and strategic leadership in enrollment management, with both short- and long-term plans focused on optimizing enrollment, attracting and retaining mission-appropriate students, and sustaining the school’s long-term vitality in the following four key areas:
    • Admissions: Oversee the full admissions process, tracking prospective students from initial inquiry through application, enrollment, and beyond.
    • Student Retention: Develop and implement strategies to retain families, ensuring they experience the full journey and value of a Saint Mark’s education.
    • Research: Collect, analyze, and interpret data to inform and support enrollment management decisions.
    • Marketing: Play a key role in crafting, articulating, and promoting the school’s value proposition and educational program. Maintain high ethical standards, integrity, and respect for all stakeholders—including colleagues, alumni/ae, parents, and students—throughout the admissions process, ensuring transparency and consistency in all policies, practices, and procedures.
  • Demonstrate cultural responsiveness and sensitivity to economic, cultural, and other factors influencing the enrollment of a diverse student body.
  • Communicate clearly, warmly, and enthusiastically with prospective students, families, and all school staff.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Advancement and Director of Communications to develop and execute a strategic recruitment, marketing, and communication plan to reach targeted audiences. This includes the preparation and distribution of admissions publications and the identification and implementation of marketing best practices.
  • Coordinate and represent Saint Mark’s at all recruitment events—including Kindergarten information nights, school fairs, tours, Open Houses, preschool outreach, welcome events, and virtual events as needed—both on campus and in the wider community.
  • Attend monthly meetings with local Admission Directors and represent Saint Mark’s at other relevant gatherings.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with external partners such as feeder schools, civic associations, real estate agencies, and community-based organizations to support outreach and enrollment of mission-aligned students.
  • Work closely with the Chief Financial Officer and Business Office to develop and uphold ethical and strategic policies for financial assistance.
  • Partner with teachers to visit classrooms and gain a strong understanding of the academic program, enhancing the admissions narrative.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Advancement to identify potential donors and strategic partnerships among current families, alumni, and broader community members.
  • Lead the Admissions Committee, ensuring an organized, confidential, and ethical admissions selection process.
  • Support students and families during the middle school admissions process in collaboration with the Head of School. Responsibilities include conducting mock interviews and coordinating fall lunch presentations by local admissions directors for sixth-grade students.
  • Develop and manage a welcoming admissions experience through community events such as Fall Fest, Parent Ed, Chapel, and more.
  • Oversee programming for new families, partnering with the Parent Association to identify volunteers and support key events, including the Kindergarten Playdate and New Family Dinner.
  • Regularly attend school functions to support and retain current families and foster community engagement.
  • Serve as the in-house expert on the admissions portal, managing all aspects of the application process—processing applications, scheduling tours and screenings, collecting fees, communicating with families, and providing timely updates on admissions decisions (acceptance, waitlist, denial).
  • Design and implement an equitable and meaningful family interview and student file review process.
  • Prepare regular reports and maintain comprehensive admissions data, including enrollment trends, geographic distribution, attrition, and market analysis. Use data insights to inform strategy and present findings to school leadership, faculty, and the board of trustees.
  • Supervise the Admissions Office staff/Registrar, overseeing responsibilities such as tour scheduling, event coordination, virtual and physical file management, communication with prospective families, student database management, contract oversight, recordkeeping, health and emergency form management, summer program registration, and compliance with licensing, exemptions, and accreditation standards.
  • Provide general office support, including answering phones, and assist with coverage of recess, lunch, and carpool duties as needed.
  • Partner with organizations such as The Children’s Education Initiative and Private School Village to recruit and enroll mission-aligned students.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Head of School. 

Qualifications 

  • A bachelor’s degree; master’s degree preferred 
  • Five to seven years of experience in education, preferably in admissions 
  • Proven track record of being a strategic thinker with an ability to develop and implement systems, best practices and new ideas in an educational environment
  • Ability to assess efforts and iterate to meet the needs of a changing landscape
  • Proven success in a senior administrative role, preferably direct admissions experience or academic administration and experience working with a board
  • Experience with managing a team and overseeing volunteers
  • Deep knowledge of the school’s program and evolving pedagogical and best practices in education
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities, including skills in change and project management, vision, and strategic thinking.
  • The ability to work collaboratively with other school community members 
  • Excellent communication skills: clear, articulate, professional in speaking and writing
  • Excellent computer skills including experience with database management and spreadsheets and the school’s educational platforms such as Blackbaud and google classroom
  • Expertise with data analysis, using data to inform strategy and decision making
  • Strong personal and interpersonal skills and qualities including cultural competence, collaboration, optimism, flexibility, adaptability, empathy, growth mindset, willingness to try new systems and ideas, transparency, innovative, sense of humor, diplomacy, discernment and good judgment
  • Experience working with faculty, engaging them in all stages of the enrollment process
  • Strong executive functioning skills, including organization, goal setting, follow through, systems thinking, efficiency

Physical Requirements and Work Environment 

  • Works at a desk and in front of a computer screen for extended periods of time. 
  • Turns, bends, reaches and may occasionally use a ladder. 
  • Be able to occasionally lift up to 30 lbs. 
  • Works primarily in a traditional climate-controlled office environment.
