Buildings and Grounds Maintenance Technician

Job Summary:

The St. Stephen’s and St. Agnes School Buildings and Grounds Department is seeking a dedicated and proactive Maintenance Technician to join the Buildings and Grounds team at one of our three campus locations (Lower School, Middle School, or Upper School) in Alexandria, Virginia. Reporting directly to the B&G Campus Supervisor, the Maintenance Technician will play a vital role in ensuring the overall maintenance and repair operations are executed efficiently and effectively, ensuring that our school’s facilities are safe and functional at all times.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Performs general plumbing, electrical, and heating, ventilation, and HVAC repairs to the facility’s equipment and systems.
  • Inspects equipment and systems to identify problems or issues.
  • Consults building plans, manuals, and documents to identify the best solution to resolve systems or equipment issues.
  • Conducts preventive maintenance to ensure that plumbing, electrical, and HVAC systems continue operating properly.
  • Performs general cleaning tasks (e.g. removal of trash and recycling).
  • Performs regular lawn care maintenance and mowing tasks and other grounds work (e.g. light trimming) when necessary.
  • Proactively evaluates facilities and grounds to determine maintenance or repairs that need to be performed.
  • Reviews and completes campus online work orders submitted in the work order management system (FMX) for preventative maintenance, daily maintenance and event requests.
  • Ensures maintenance and repair work is completed safely, effectively, and in a timely manner.
  • Assists with event set up and breakdowns in collaboration with other school departments.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Knowledge of building systems such as plumbing, electrical, and HVAC.
  • Ability to read architectural drawings, building plans, and manuals.
  • Ability to use hand tools and power tools.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of lawn care maintenance.
  • Proficient with computers and relevant software applications needed to complete reports, logs, and inventory.
  • Must be able to work occasional nights and weekends.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • At least two years of maintenance experience required.
  • Drivers license.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to stand and walk extensive campus properties for prolonged periods of time when necessary.
  • Must be physically able to climb ladders, bend, or crouch / crawl into spaces when necessary.
  • Must be physically able to perform repairs when needed.
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds at a time.
