New York, NY—Beginning in 2011, the Episcopal Colleges Scholarship, sponsored by the Colleges and Universities of the Anglican Communion (CUAC), will be awarded to assist a graduating senior of an Episcopal school (with active membership in the National Association of Episcopal Schools) and who is accepted to and begins studies at one of the Episcopal colleges in the United States listed below:
- Bard College, NY
- Clarkson College, NE
- Hobart and William Smith Colleges, NY
- Kenyon College, OH
- St. Augustine College, Chicago, IL
- St. Augustine’s College, Raleigh, NC
- St. Paul’s College, VA
- The University of the South, TN
- Voorhees College, SC
Purpose and Criteria
The Episcopal Colleges Scholarship recognizes students who have been active Episcopalians both in their school and in their home parish. Applicants must be able to demonstrate a strong record of academic achievement in the junior and senior years, outstanding leadership, and a commitment to worship and community life in their school and parish. Community service and social justice outreach are especially recognized.
Scholarship Award Amounts In academic year 2010-2011, one four-year scholarship will be awarded and also in the following years, as long as funding remains available.
$1,200 will be awarded for the first year and renewable each year that the student remains in good standing at the institutions where enrolled, for a total of up $4,800 for four years for each student.
Scholarship Applications
Applications are to be submitted the CUAC office and must include:
- a letter of application
- a completed application form (available online)
- letters of recommendation from the head of the applicant’s school, from the student’s home parish rector, and from one of the faculty who has taught the applicant.
- a current transcript.
Application Deadline
Applications must be received by January 1 for the following September.
Scholarship Award Process and Requirements
Scholarship awards will be decided by February 1.
Each scholarship award recipient must be accepted to and matriculate at the Episcopal college listed on her or his application. Upon matriculation, a scholarship award will be prepared by the CUAC office and made payable to the Episcopal college for tuition or residence fees. In order to receive the scholarship in subsequent years, the student’s college will be asked to send a letter notifying CUAC that the student remains enrolled, has made satisfactory academic progress, and is in good behavioral standing.
