St. James Academy Board of Trustees Announces New Head of School

[St. James Academy] On behalf of the vestry of St. James Church, Monkton, Maryland, the St. James Academy (SJA) board of trustees is privileged to announce the appointment of Karl Adler as the next head of school effective July 1, 2012. The board’s unanimous decision to select Mr. Adler cited a compelling match between SJA’s sustainable, mission-related qualities and Mr. Adler’s educational preparation, professional experience, personal strengths, and passion for the kindergarten through eighth grade model.

Mr. Adler currently serves as assistant and middle school head of Calverton School, Huntingtown, Maryland. In addition to his master of education in school Improvement and leadership from Goucher College, he holds a Johns Hopkins University post-graduate certificate in Independent school leadership. Mr. Adler has fifteen years of teaching and administrative experience and will be joined by his wife, Danielle, and two young children.

Originally founded in 1821 and reestablished in 1957, St. James Academy is an Episcopal parish day school for children in kindergarten through grade 8. Located in Monkton, Maryland, the school’s program is values-based, and focused on individual attention to each student’s intellectual, emotional, social, spiritual and physical growth. Students graduate well prepared for lifelong learning, able to promote a global perspective and intercultural understanding, and to live a creative and compassionate life worthy of a child of God and a contributing member of our world.
