St. James’ Episcopal School is looking for a full-time Beyond School Director & Playground Teacher for the 2025-2026 school year. This is a 10-month, non-exempt position. The successful candidate will take a student-centered approach to all school work and will use the School’s mission to support the academic, extracurricular, social, and emotional success of students.
The Beyond School Director/ Playground Teacher:
- works the hours of 9:45 am – 5:45 pm.
- oversees the Beyond School Program, which includes:
- planning the BYS offerings for each trimester;
- securing the appropriate staffing for the offerings, in coordination with the Human Resources Manager;
- collaborating with Senior Administrators on the scope and marketing of the BYS program;
- communicating with families regarding registration and any other issues;
- planning events related to the BYS program, e.g., the Sport Award Ceremony;
- tracking the budget of the BYS program;
- supervising the after school hours when the classes are in session, including taking attendance for classes;
- adhering carefully to all carpool and Aftercare procedures when assisting with dismissal from BYS classes;
- observing and evaluating the effectiveness of the BYS teachers;
- and evaluating the effectiveness of the program overall.
- serves as a Playground Teacher for lunch and recess, including:
- facilitating, and enforcing the rules of, playground games,
- actively supervising the playground areas,
- modeling positive interaction and conflict resolution with and between students,
- reporting in a timely manner any playground incidents to the Playground Team, Supervisor, and/or Health Coordinator
- demonstrating effective communication with colleagues and families.
- reports to the Head of School.
This opportunity requires excellent strategies and skills in communication, collaboration, and organization with an appreciation for confidentiality, equity, belonging, and professional growth. Experience with children in a school or camp setting is advantageous. A bachelor’s degree is preferred.

The pay range for this position is $23.70 to $31.40 per hour dependent on qualifications and years of relevant experience.
