In a preschool learning environment, the Preschool Lead Teacher plans, organizes, and implements an appropriate instructional program and classroom operation that advances the intellectual, emotional, social, and physical development of children within a safe, healthy learning environment.

This full-time position reports to the Head of Preschool.

Principle Responsibilities

  • Plans, prepares and delivers lesson plans and instructional materials and experiences that facilitate active and meaningful learning
  • Develops schemes of work, lesson plans and diagnostic assessment that are in accordance with established practices and meet established learning objectives
  • Instructs and facilitates students’ use of learning materials and equipment
  • Demonstrates competency in the use of relevant development and curriculum to support and differentiate instruction
  • Establishes and maintains appropriate student behavior in the classroom, school building and school grounds and exercises due care for the health, safety and well-being of the students in accordance with Blue House Preschool’s philosophy and policies
  • Encourages and monitors individual student progress and uses information to adjust teaching strategies
  • Maintains accurate and complete records of students’ progress and development
  • Actively participates in professional development, curriculum development, and class, grade, and level meetings
  • Effectively communicates necessary information regarding students’ progress to students, colleagues, and parents
  • Establishes an organized and prepared classroom including a logical physical set up
  • Directs the work and responsibilities of the assistant teacher (Fellow) including communicating expectations, assigning teaching responsibilities, providing feedback on instructional and/or other relevant aspects of the job, modeling best teaching practices, mentoring inexperienced assistant and development of the individual’s understanding of school and level policies, expectations and orientation
  • Demonstrates a desire to improve by collaborating with colleagues and seeking feedback on teaching practices
  • Participates responsibly in regularly assigned duties including, but not limited to carpool, playground, and orderliness of shared areas
  • Participates in the life of the school by attending school sponsored activities
  • Performs all other related work delegated or required to accomplish the objectives of the total school program

Qualifications and Competencies:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in early childhood or related field
  • Must love working with children
  • Previous experience in a licensed preschool a plus
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others including colleagues, parents, administration
  • Proven ability to maintain complete confidentiality in all matters.
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills including punctuality, prioritization, and self-motivation skills.

  • Models standards of a professional educator
  • Knowledge and implementation of relevant technology
