US History and Religion Teacher
St. Margaret’s Episcopal School is now accepting applications for an opening in the History Department of the Upper School Division (9th-12th grade) beginning August 2025.
We are seeking an exceptional educator who is a clear and effective communicator with a deep understanding of pedagogy and innovative instruction in the history and religion classrooms. A successful candidate will have a passion for teaching and the ability to inspire students to think critically about historical events and their impact on society. Religion courses are taught through the lens of St. Margaret’s Episcopalian Identity.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and implement engaging, challenging, and culturally responsive assessments that encourage critical thinking and creativity in the classroom.
- Foster a safe and inclusive learning environment where students are encouraged to share their perspectives and ideas about history and religion.
- Attend professional development opportunities to stay up-to-date on the latest research and teaching methods in the field of history and religious education.
- Serve as a mentor to students and help them develop a love for history and religion that extends beyond the classroom.
- Collaborate with chaplains on curriculum design and development and best pedagogical practices.
Compensation: $69,000 – $87,000 (Please note: summer instruction is strongly encouraged and available and will be compensated with separate contracts, ranging from $7,000 – $8,000 per course)

Requirements
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in history and/or religion (a master’s degree and a clear California Teacher Credential are preferred but not required).
- Minimum of 2+ years of full-time classroom teaching experience.
- Strong understanding of best practices in history and religious education and a commitment to ongoing professional development.
- High level of comfort using educational technology tools in the classroom.
- Demonstrated ability to differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all students.
- Experience working in a diverse community and a commitment to equity and inclusion in the classroom.
